Le Fantome towers over us, solitary on a car roof that has become a shield. Standing at a height of over four metres, arms folded and masked, he appears impenetrable and enigmatic. Jutting out over the seven drums and balancing on its rectangular base, The Phantom beckons us to challenge. The Arts Cultural Centre in Amiens has a new guard.

 

As a festival project the sculpture was extended upon to include the traditional European concepts of gardens and mazes. The site where the sculpture stands becomes a new playground for learning. A meandering set of pathways has been created. Blue drums filled with soil, plants and flowers conceal Le Fantome within them.
